"Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking." Daniel 5:5
“This is the inscription that was written:
mene, mene, tekel, parsin
“Here is what these words mean:
Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end.
Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.
Peres: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”
Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.
That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, was slain... Daniel 5:26-30
First of all, please read the whole account in Daniel 5. My mind is blown every time I read it.
Have you ever had a nudge? Just a little, itty-bitty nudge?
King Belshazzar must have had millions of nudges. But he plowed through in all-out rebellion, worshiping other gods and going so far as to drink wine from the gold and silver goblets that were used in the Temple. Sheer mockery of the One True and Living God.
So listen. Listen to the nudges. The borderline, almost imperceptible feelings that something is off.
Maybe you are incredibly lonely and you have allowed someone into your life who "seems" to be your soulmate. Loneliness is screaming at you to go for it. But at the same time, you're feeling a nudge.
Fall, facedown, at Jesus' feet. Pour everything out to Him.
Your decision will make or break you. Are there children in the mix? Your decision will make or break them as well.
There are many examples of nudges that you and I could share.
All I'm saying is this. Listen to the nudges. Most of the time, the hard thing is the right thing. But something wild, simply wild, happens when we choose the hard thing. The hard thing morphs into intense joy and delight.
The greatest example is Jesus on the Cross.
Jesus said, "Yes! I will do the hard thing!"
Jesus' face was disfigured more than anyone ever before or anyone ever after Him, and yet He rose, the greatest Victor of all time.
Trust me, you don't want to see the writing on the wall. Because by that time, it will be too late.
"Dear Jesus, someone is reading this who is nearing a "writing on the wall" experience. Please. Keep nudging. Keep tugging. Thanks for nudging me all those years. I finally listened. How I love You. AMEN."
